Trailer Safety
The Trailer Electronic Control Brake System (TEBS) is a high-tech control center which uses sensors to measure and process data about a number of things from braking and wheel speed, to air spring condition, tire pressure and trailer tilt angle. It then analyzes this data and communicates it to in excess of 40 different trailer functions all of which have an impact on the safety and efficiency of trailer driving.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
ABS prevents the wheels from locking during braking which greatly improves trailer handling; especially important during emergency braking situations. ABS works by taking information from the wheel speed sensors. It recognizes when a wheel locks and determines whether to lower, delay or raise the brake pressure.

Roll Stability Support (RSS)
RSS also takes information from sensors to automatically apply the brakes (to varying degrees) as a preventive measure if the trailer is in danger of tipping when rounding a corner. This system also warns the driver when unloading if the preset frame tilt angle is exceeded, or if the driver starts the engine with the bucket lifted.

TailGUARD
The TailGUARD system was developed by WABCO to improve safety when reversing by detecting obstacles within the blind spot. Using ultrasonic sensors mounted on the back of the vehicle, the system applies a traffic light system in the cockpit to determine the vicinity of the obstacle, warning the driver and slowing the vehicle down. This is particularly useful for vehicles which are fitted with expensive hydraulic equipment, such as refuse trucks.

OptiTire – Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Incorrect tire pressure poses a serious threat to the driver, load and vehicle as well as compromising fuel efficiency. WABCO’s OptiTire TPMS uses wheel modules (external or internal), trailer and truck ECUs. All elements are connected via CAN bus and information about tire pressure condition transmitted via radio signal.

WABCO OnGuardPLUS
Driver involvement will be massively reduced with the arrival of autonomous vehicles. But the road to autonomous driving involves incorporating many developments into everyday life, today. OnGuardPLUS from WABCO is an autonomous emergency braking system which helps reduce collision risk with the vehicle in front. Consisting of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS), it helps maintain a safe distance and automatically applies the brakes if it detects a dangerous approach.

WABCO OnLane™
WABCO’s innovative Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) for trucks and buses helps reduce accidents. Using a tracking camera to recognize road markings and vehicle position, the system warns drivers of a possible lane departure or exit from the road using visual, audible and mechanical warning signals.
